When I heard I was getting a copy I was excited and then followed the LT link to find a review of it, and that reviewer had the same experience as you. I don't think she made it past page 8. And while her review wasn't quite as witty as yours is, her reaction was much the same! Maybe it's less than 300 pages? Maybe the second narrator will be bearable?
