Reading for warmth...

btt button

The northern hemisphere, at least, is socked in by winter right now… So, on a cold, wintry day, when you want nothing more than to curl up with a good book on the couch … what kind of reading do you want to do?

I'm in the northern hemisphere but we don't have much snow, at least not yet. A day like that can be lovely. Snow makes the world so quiet and clean, and that is unusual for New York City. The image conjured up by your question is an appealing one. Generally, I would think of enveloping fiction. A story whose world wraps the reader like a blanket and does so with quality, I want eiderdown not polyester fill. Something like this. The romantic image, however, will be different from the reality should we get belted by the storm this weekend. I am more likely to be reading Diagnosing Learning Disorders, I of the Vortex, Rhythms of the Brain, and many articles by and about Freud. That, and I'll take a walk in the snow!

Ooohhh, you are making me want to drop everything I have lined up and read The Magicians. I know people have sort of lined up on either side for that book, but I think it sounds great. My magic pick would be a book I read around this time last year, Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norell. It was a wonderful escape. Enjoy the snow! (Not a Freud pun.)

I yearn for snow. I miss it as we have hardly had any this "winter". My BTT: http://www.rundpinne.com/2010/02/booking-through-thursday-genre.html

I would definitely not pick Freud to read on a snow day! Haha. My BTT is at The Crowded Leaf.

Just as I predicted most people listed some type of fiction. My answer is quite different.

Here's my BTT Answer

The snow looks clean while it is untouched, but then the roads and sidewalks get all yucky.

When I saw the question, my first thought was the Central Park in New York City. Then I wondered what you might have picked for the snowy winter in the Big Apple if you do answer. Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell, as suggested by Priscilla, is something I have wanted to read for a long time. I wasn't sure it's too popular with the critics and therefore a hype.

My only requirement is that the book is plot-driven. A suspense would be nice.

I love winter for that found time when snow makes everything else impossible. Everything else besides reading! :-)
