It's just a freaking number.

Four loads of laundry, eight grocery bags, vacuuming, dusting, party decorations, preparing the vegetable platter, and the guests come in three hours - what do you think my chances are of having read 50 books in 2007? I haven't even cracked #49 So Long, See You Tomorrw by William Maxwell, much as I'd have liked to. Unless I pull out Harold and the Purple Crayon it ain't gonna happen. It's just a freaking number. 48 has a nice feel to it. I read four dozen books last year, I will be able to say. Sounds very round - very complete.

A Happy and healthy New Year to everyone.

Ain't nothin' wrong with harold and the purple crayon. I might pull out Good Night Moon at 11:59 tonight out of sheer desperation.

S - Or maybe Harris Burdick

R - Indeed I did.

I finished Master & Commander - at 11:25 pm no less ... and put my final list of Books Read up.

Now I need to make a list for this year. I think I'm gonna read War & Peace but I need to gear up for it.

S - Congratulations! War & Peace, huh? I think "Life and Fate" will be enough for me! Have you read that?

No, haven't read it! I want to read something big and rigorous. Either War & Peace or some Stendahl, something like that.

He stumbles who runs fast. I like the classics too… and I read what I can.

I felt something like Stendahl’s Syndrome in Florence last year –no kidding. Le Rouge et le Noir is the most popular of his novels but La Chartreuse de Parme, in my view, is better. The young Fabricio sleeps with his aunt and is snubbed by Napoleon’s men. He finds ClĂ©lia, but she dies of love… ouch!

Anyone likes Nietzsche? “You great star, what would your happiness be had you not those for whom you shine?”

48 books in 2007 is better then mine. I agree this year has been hectic, and I don't know about you, but for me... 2008 is going to be CHAOS for me!!! Its my birthday in a few weeks, then my sons then my cousin's wedding, then 5 weeks after her wedding is what... oh yes MY wedding! Do you think I'm going to beat your 48 books... well i'll tell you i've already read one this year but you can too! If you want another number added to your books, you have to read Fables From The Mud by Erik Quisling. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I read this book and was really surprised by the content. It has very few words but will have you laughing out loud as you read it with his side-splittingly funny content. Every page in the book has a basic hand-drawn picture with mostly a line or two of words. I read the book pretty quick but kept returning to re-read some of the crazy antics.
Trust me it's worth a peek, and definately worth adding to your number for 2008!!!

Sure, it's just a number. That's what I say whenever I'm forced on a scale.

Thanks for visiting my blog... I'm intrigued by yours and have added it to my list.

Best wishes for 2008 and happy reading.
